Deleting All Questions in a Question Bank Category

Questions in a Question Bank category (and in all subcategories of that category) can be deleted in bulk for quick organization of the Question Bank.

This article details the process for deleting all questions in a Question Bank category.

Deleting Questions in Bulk

The questions to delete must be placed into a category or subcategory of the Question Bank to enable bulk selection.  Follow the instructions in the "Adding a Question to a Question Bank Category" article to add the questions to a category.

To delete the questions:

1. In the course menu at the top of the main Moodle course page, select the "More" tab.
2. In the drop-down menu that appears, select "Question bank".
3. In the Question bank page, just above the header, click the drop-down menu.
4. Select "Categories" from the list.
5. Click on the category containing the questions & subcategories of questions to delete.
6. In the "Match Category" filter, enable "Also show questions from subcategories".
7. In the questions table at the top left of the table click the checkbox.
8. With all questions selected, at the bottom of the page, click the "With selected" button.
9. Choose "Delete" from the pop-up menu.
10. Review the questions to be deleted to ensure that no needed questions have been selected.
11. Click the "Delete" button.

This will delete every question available on the first page in the list, and inside of any subcategories of that parent category, if applicable.  Repeat steps 7-11 for every other page of questions, if more than 100 questions are available in the category and subcategories selected.

Any questions that are currently being used a Quiz will not be removed and will instead be hidden from the Question Bank menu, but they are still available and can be reused.
