You can complete enrollment without giving Duo your phone number.
Note: Authenticating with any of the available two-factor methods will not subject your personal device to university monitoring, discovery, or public records requests. This includes, but is not limited to, the following common methods:
- Text codes
- Voice calls
- Duo Mobile App
- Security Keys
- Back-up codes

On the What type of device are you adding step of the enrollment process, choose either Tablet or Security Key.
- Your smartphone (iPhone or Android) can be the "Tablet" if you do not have an iPad, Nexus, or Galaxy Tab device.
- Enroll a Security Key for Duo.
