Blind grading practices can be utilized when grading questions in a Moodle Quiz activity to hide the identity of the student from the grader. Any user with the instructor, instructional support, or teaching assistant role in Moodle can switch to the Blind Quiz Grader role to grade a Quiz.
This article provides instructions on how to access the Blind Quiz Grader role in Moodle, and complete essay grading anonymously.
Using the Blind Quiz Grader Role
In order to switch to the Switch role to.. action, then manually grade the essay submissions in the Quiz. Following that, switch back to the normal role.
Accessing the Role
To perform the role switch:
- In the top right corner of the Moodle window, click the name of the logged-in user.
- In the drop-down menu that appears, select the Switch role to... option.
- Select the Blind Quiz Grader from the list of options.
Following this, Blind Quiz Grader should be shown underneath the profile picture and name in the top right corner of the Moodle window.
Grading Essay Submissions
To grade the Quiz using manual grading after performing the role switch, follow the instructions in the "Grading a Moodle Quiz Manually" article.
Returning to Normal Role
After the Quiz is graded, to return to the normally assigned role in the course:
- In the top right corner of the Moodle window select the profile picture and name menu.
- In the drop-down menu that appears, select Return to my normal role from the list of options.
Following this, Blind Quiz Grader should not appear underneath the profile picture and name, indicating that roles have switched to normal.
