NC State provides a virtual private network (VPN) connection through software known as the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client, or Cisco AnyConnect for short. A VPN connection is typically required in situations where an individual may be accessing sensitive information or when an individual accesses on-campus resources with an off-campus connection.

To download and install Cisco AnyConnect to your computer, please see the instructions below.  If you are using a Chromebook, follow these instructions instead.

Downloading Cisco AnyConnect

  1. Visit OIT's VPN Webpage
  2. Scroll to Installing and Using VPN.
  3. Select the link for your operating system.
  4. You will be presented with installation instructions. In Step 1, select the link titled installer file.
  5. Save the file to your Downloads folder.
  6. When the download completes, follow the installation instructions listed underneath Step 1.

Connecting to the VPN

When the file installs, you may need to search for it on your computer. Depending on your operating system, you can use the search bar near the Start Menu (Windows 10) or Finder (macOS), to search for Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client.

Once the client is open, follow these instructions to log in.
