On November 5, OIT disabled SMS text message codes as a way to authenticate with Duo. To continue accessing campus resources, you will need to switch to using the Duo Mobile app using the steps below.

Enroll Your Device in Duo Mobile

You can follow the instructions below to enroll your device in Duo Mobile.

  1. Download the Duo Mobile app from the App Store or Google Play Store.
  2. Go to the Duo Device Management page at go.ncsu.edu/duoenroll. We recommend that you visit this page on a computer if possible so you can use your phone to scan a QR code.
  3. Sign in with your Unity ID and password.
  4. Select a way to sign in with Duo. You can use an existing device that you have access to or a Duo bypass code. If you need a Duo bypass code, you will need to call the NC State Help Desk at 919-515-4357 (HELP) or visit the OIT Walk-in Center.
  5. Select the Add a device tile, even though your phone number is already listed.
  6. Select the Duo Mobile option.
  7. Enter your phone number in the Phone number field. Then, select Continue.
  8. If you are given a prompt that asks you to verify that you own the device, select Text me and you will get a code via text. Enter the code in the field and select Verify. Then, select Continue. If you are not given this prompt, then just continue to the next step.
  9. Install Duo Mobile from your device's app store if you haven't already. Then, select Next.
  10. When it asks if you if your phone number is correct, select Yes, it's correct if your phone number is listed correctly.
  11. Now, open the Duo Mobile app on your phone. Select + Add or Add new account. If your phone asks for permissions to send notifications, select Allow. Then, select Use QR code. If your phone asks for permission to use the camera, allow the permission.
  12. Point your phone's camera to the QR code on your computer screen. After it has been added, a green checkmark will appear over the QR code.
  13. After your computer shows, "Added Duo Mobile," select Continue.
  14. You will be sent back to the main Duo Device Management page. You do not need to do anything else and can close your browser.
  15. On your phone, you may get a message from Duo asking if you added the device. Select Yes, this was me.
  16. On your phone, you'll be asked to name the account. You can leave it as it is. Select Save.
  17. Your phone may ask if you want to practice using Duo. You can skip the practice if you would like.
  18. You are now done on your phone and can close the Duo Mobile app. You don't have to do anything with the code that it shows on your phone.
  19. If you want to practice logging in with Duo, you can use an incognito window on your computer to log into MyPack Portal.
