The Usage report in Zoom provides details on meeting participants and can be used to track attendance.

Accessing Usage Reports

To access a Usage report:

  1. From the NC State Zoom portal, select "Reports" from the left hand menu.
  2. Click "Usage" and enter the date range to include when the meeting occurred.
  3. Click "Search" and locate the meeting of interest.
  4. Scroll right to view the "Participants" column and click the number of participants.

Instructors will then see participant details. Choose the "Show unique users" checkbox to eliminate duplicates, such as students joining, leaving and rejoining due to connectivity issues.

By clicking "Export," instructors can download usage reports as a CSV file to keep a local record.

Ensuring Accurate Results

To get accurate data from these reports, instructors should have their students join Zoom meetings while logged into Zoom with their NC State accounts.

Instructors should enable "Only authenticated users can join meetings" on their Zoom meeting settings page, and also enable this option on when scheduling a meeting (in the Security section).  Choose "NC State users only" as the authentication method.

Tracking Views of a Zoom Recording

When students are unable to attend a live Zoom meeting, instructors can record the meeting for students to view later. If the recording is saved to the Cloud (i.e., saved on the Zoom server), instructors can see details on who viewed their recordings using Zoom's Reporting Analytics.

Accessing Recording Analytics

To access Zoom recording analytics:

  1. From the NC State Zoom portal, select "Recordings" from the left hand menu.
  2. Go to the Recordings page: https://ncsu.zoom.us/recording.
  3. Click the title of the recording.
  4. Click "Recording Analytics."

For each recording, instructors get an aggregate summary and can drill down for more detailed information on views and downloads.  All data can be exported as a CSV file.

Tracking a Zoom Recording in Moodle

Instructors can share their Zoom recordings in Moodle as a URL resource. Views of that URL can be tracked using activity completion using the instructions in the "Setting Activity Completion on a Moodle Activity" article.

Instructors will not know how much of the recording students watched, but can track which students clicked the link.
