VPN Installation for ChromeOS

These are the basic instructions to download, configure, and connect to the NCSU VPN using Cisco AnyConnect with ChromeOS.  However, this service is not officially supported by NCSU. 

If you need further assistance, see Cisco's AnyConnect User Support Guide.

1. Download Cisco AnyConnect

  • Open the Chrome Browser.
  • Navigate to the Chrome Store.
  • In the left side bar menu, type AnyConnect in the search field.
  • Select the Apps radio button and you should see the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client listed.
  • Click [+Add to Chrome].

 

 

 

 

 

2. Configure the VPN

  • Click on the App Launcher button to view installed Applications.
  • Click on the AnyConnect icon to start the configuration process.
  • In the AnyConnect window, select [+Add New Connection].
  • In the Name field, enter NCSU VPN.
  • In the Server Address field, enter vpn.ncsu.edu.
  • Click [Save Changes] and exit out of the application window.

3. Connect to the NCSU VPN using AnyConnect

  • Click on the Status Menu at the bottom right corner of your screen.
  • Click on the key icon [Show VPN Settings] -it will be set to Off.
  • Click [NCSU VPN (user)].
  • From the Group drop-down, select GROUP 2-Student (or 1-Faculty-and-Staff).
    • Note the Mobility Print printers are not available in full tunnel (FT) VPN.
  • Enter your UNITY ID, and password, and in the Second Password field type push, SMS, or passcode to authenticate.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • To verify you have successfully connected, click on the key/wifi icon in the Status Area.
  • The VPN should now be set to ON.
