Generate and Use Bypass Codes for Duo

You can generate Duo bypass codes for one-time use with Duo-protected services. Bypass codes can be useful when you do not have access to your authentication devices or if you are prompted for a bypass code from your IT help desk.

Generate Duo Bypass Codes 

1. Visit the 2FA Bypass Code page.
2. Log in using your Unity ID and password.
3. Answer one of your security questions. You will have three tries per question.
   • If you are unable to answer any of your security questions, you will need to call the NC State Help Desk at 919-515-4357 (HELP) for further assistance.
4. Select Generate Duo Codes.
   • Note: Duo codes will expire 60 minutes after they are created, used once, or when new codes are generated.

Use Your Duo Bypass Code

After signing in with your Unity ID and password, you can use your bypass code with Duo.

1. If Duo automatically sends you a push or other log-in verification, select Other options.
   • If Duo does not automatically send you anything, select Enter a Passcode. 
   • For VPN, enter the bypass code in the Second password field.
2. Select the Bypass code tab.
3. Enter your bypass code in the Bypass code field.
4. Select Verify.
