A security key (also called a fob, or USB key), is a read-only device that looks like a USB flash drive. When plugged into your USB drive, it will generate a code for you, instead of you entering a code manually. Any device that is WebAuthn/FIDO2 certified can be used with Duo or Google 2-Step Verification.
OIT has tested and used the following keys but does not endorse them:

You can use a single security key for multiple accounts, including both Duo and Google 2-Step Verification. You can also add multiple keys to the same account.
Security keys are not provided centrally. It is up to the discretion of the individual unit or department to determine who is responsible to pay for security keys if they are needed for their employees. Questions regarding security key purchases should be directed to your Director or Unit head. Various are available through the Amazon Marketplace found within the MyPack Portal and can also be found at the NC State Bookstore.
