WolfPrint User Documentation

This documentation offers a brief description of the WolfPrint service, answers some of the frequently asked questions received from users, and provides links for up-to-date documentation in OIT's Public Knowledge Base.  For details on how the service works, please see WolfPrint Technical Information.

If you don't find the help you're looking for here, submit a WolfPrint Problem Report and one of our team members will get back to you soon!

Information

What is WolfPrint and how does it work?

WolfPrint is NC State’s accounted printing service and can be used by anyone with a valid Unity ID and an active WolfPack One card.  There are three Supported Print Methods and the printers are conveniently located across campus.  To find a printer near you, visit go.ncsu.edu/printers.

To print, you must also have funds available in either your All Campus account, print credit, or have access to a WolfPrint Shared Account.  Visit the WolfPrint Website for detailed instructions on how to print!

Commonly reported issues

1.  I am getting an error message, why won't the WolfPrint Website load?

This error will occur if you are trying to access the WolfPrint from a mobile device that is not logged in to the NCSU WiFi.  To access WolfPrint resources, you must be logged into the NCSU or Eduroam WiFi network (not your cellular data or NCSU guest WiFi).  See KB0017046 for more information.

2.  I have money in my All Campus Account, but WolfPrint is showing a $0.00 balance available.

If your All Campus card has been reported lost or has reached its expiration date, the funds in your account will not be available for use. WolfPrint will be able to confirm the issue for you, but you'll need to contact the WolfPack One Card office to resolve it.  See KB0021500 for more information.

3.  I am getting a "disallowed paper size" error message and can't print my file.

If you are getting a disallowed paper size error when printing your file, you'll need to convert the page size of the document to US Letter.  If you need a larger size page printed, you can send your print job to a WolfPrint 11x17 printer.  See KB0011383 for more information.

Print Costs, Payment Methods, and Refunds

1.  How much does it cost to print?

The cost per page to print differs based on the type of printer (black and white or color) and the paper size (letter, tabloid, plotter).  For the current rates, see the WolfPrint Printing Costs article.

2.  How do I pay for print services?

WolfPrint Payment Options include the All Campus Account (most popular), a WolfPrint shared account (departmental funds), or using up your existing print credit (refunded print jobs).

3.  What is a WolfPrint Shared Account?

A shared account can be used to fund printing using departmental funds.  To request a new shared account be created or to add funds and users to an existing account, submit a Departmental Funding Request for Students.  See KB0021307 for more information.

4.  How do I print using a shared account?

Printing using a shared account will look the same as printing with your account, except you will select the shared account number to charge your print job to when printing, not your personal WolfPrint account.  For step-by-step instructions, see KB0021307.

5.  If my print job fails or has poor quality, can I request a refund?

WolfPrint will usually refund your print credit if your print job fails or has poor print quality. All refunds are applied to the PaperCut account as print credit.  See KB0021347  for instructions on how to submit a WolfPrint Refund Request.

6.  What is Print Credit?

Print Credit is generated when a print job is refunded. It is used for printing only and does not expire.  If you are graduating or planning to withdraw from the University, you may submit a request for a Full Refund of WolfPrint Credit

FollowMe Printing, Print Release, and Integrated Scanning

1.  What is a “Touch-Free” print release using the QR Codes on the printer?

Each WolfPrint FollowMe printer on NC State’s campus will feature a Quick Response or QR code on its front panel for touch-free print release. While traditional print release using an NCSU ID card or manual login will still be available, users have the option to scan a WolfPrint QR Code for Touch-Free Print Release and release their print job from the web.

2.  Can I print from an "off-campus" location?

You can send your print job from an off-campus location and it will be held for you in the WolfPrint virtual FollowMe print queue for up to 12 hours. To access WolfPrint resources from an off-campus location, you MUST first establish a secure connection to the campus network using NCSU VPN (Virtual Private Networking Service).

3.  Can I scan documents from a WolfPrint printer?

Certain printer models have Scan and Photocopy Capabilities, and scanned pages will be sent to your NCSU Google Drive.

See https://ncsu.service-now.com/sp?id=kb_article_view&sysparm_article=KB0018535 for more information.

4.  Do the WolfPrint printers support duplexing?

You can use Duplex Printing with Wolfprint but there is no discount offered.  One duplex page is charged as 2 pages.

Mobile Printing Options

1.  Can I print using a mobile device or laptop?

WolfPrint supports two Mobile Printing methods; Mobility Print and Web Print. To determine which method best suits your needs, see the Options and Feature Comparison Chart.

2.  FollowMe Printing with Mobility Print

Mobility Print allows you to print to the WolfPrint FollowMe printers from any supported app on your mobile device, such as a smartphone, tablet, or laptop, regardless of the operating system.  For one-time setup instructions, please select the link for your specific operating system.

3.  FollowMe Printing with Web Print

Web print allows you to print to the WolfPrint Follow Me printers from any device, but only 1 sided PDF files are accepted.  See WolfPrint FollowMe Printing with Web Print for instructions.
