All active students and most active employees of NC State are provided a license to use Microsoft Office 365 at no cost to the individual. For a list of all software products made available to the campus community, please visit software.ncsu.edu.

Accessing Microsoft Office 365 on the Web

  1. Visit the Microsoft Office website 
  2. Select Sign in.
  3. Sign in with your NC State email address, Unity password, and Duo.

Once signed in, you will have access to use the Microsoft Office 365 products online.

You can also access Microsoft 365 apps through VCL at vcl.ncsu.edu.

Downloading Microsoft Office 365 Apps on a Personal Device

If you are an active student or a full-time faculty or staff member, you can install Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise on your personal devices (up to 5 PCs or Macs, 5 tablets, and 5 smartphones).

Note: If you are a not a student or full-time faculty or staff member, you will not be able to download the apps on a personal device.

  1. Visit the Microsoft Office website 
  2. Select Sign in.
  3. Sign in with your NC State email address, Unity password, and Duo.
  4. Select Install and more in the upper-right corner.
  5. In the drop-down menu, select Install Microsoft 365 apps.
  6. Select Install Office in the Office apps & devices section.
  7. Follow the prompts on your screen to continue with the installation after the download has completed.
    • Note: On Windows devices, DO NOT select the option to "Allow your organization to manage your device". Choose "No, sign-in to this app only."

Downloading Microsoft Office 365 Apps on a University-Owned Device

Departmental IT staff are responsible for managing the deployment of Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise on their department’s computers. Faculty and staff should contact their IT department if they want Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise installed on a university-owned computer.
