Instructors can export gradebooks at any point in time during their course offering to several file formats. Exporting grades creates a file with information from the gradebook at that moment in time.  This file can include grade data for any or all of the grade items in a gradebook, and also includes some identifying information about the users in the space.

This article provides instructions on exporting grade data from the Moodle Gradebook.

Data Included in Export

The data included in the gradebook export can contain any amount of information, at the instructor's discretion.

The following columns are added to the spreadsheet by default:

Grade item scores will be shown between the "Email address" and "Last downloaded..." columns.

Grade data can be downloaded in the following spreadsheet formats:

The most readable version of this is the Excel spreadsheet option.

Export Format Options

When exporting data from the gradebook, the following options can be modified to change what information is in the spreadsheet.

The default settings will suffice for the majority of users.

Exporting Grade Data

To export grade data in a course:

  1. In the course menu at the top of the main Moodle course page, select the "Grades" tab.
  2. In the drop-down menu at the top left of the page, select "Export" from the list.
  3. In the Export page, select the file format to download by changing the "Export as" field.
  4. In the "Grade items to be included" section, select any grade items to include in the export.
  5. Expand the "Export format options" and make changes as needed.
  6. Click the "Download" button.

The file should be downloaded with the correct information.
