Using Mobility Print from iOS and iPadOS

This document provides instructions for setting up Mobility Print on an iOS or iPad device.  The intended audience is an end user.

Information

To add the WolfPrint printers for Mobility Print during setup, your device must be on the NC State network.  On-campus users, connect to Eduroam or the NCSU wireless network.  Off-campus users, connect using NC State's VPN Service.

Mobility Print works just like AirPrint on iOS and iPadOS.  Once your device is connected to the NC State network, no additional setup steps are required.

Submit your files(s)

1. Print like you normally would from your device.

  • Tap the three dots menu in the upper right
  • Select the Print icon
  • Choose the desired WolfPrint Printer
    • WolfPrint-BlackandWhite
    • WolfPrint-Color
    • WolfPrint-BlackandWhite-11x17
    • WolfPrint-Color-11x17
  • Select the desired print options
  • Tap print to send your job to a WolfPrint printer.

Confirm your print job

2. After your print job is submitted, you must confirm it within 10 minutes, or it will automatically be removed from the system.

  • Open the PaperCut Web Client at https://go.ncsu.edu/wolfprint
  • Log in with your Unity ID and password.
  • After a few seconds, you should get a Print Job Notification pop-up.
  • Select the PaperCut account to charge and then click Print.
  • Another pop-up message should appear, indicating the file is ready to print on a FollowMe printer.

Release your print job

3. After your print job is confirmed, you must release it within 12 hours, or it will automatically be removed from the system.

  • Your print job will be held in a virtual queue for up to 12 hours.
  • Find a WolfPrint Printer to release your print job.

Troubleshooting

It is rarely reported that an iOS or iPadOS device doesn't find the correct WolfPrint printers when using Eduroam or the NCSU wireless network, with the DNS settings set to auto.  A workaround for this issue is to download the profile listed here: https://print.ncsu.edu:9164/client-setup/known-host/ios.html

This should connect your device to the mobility print server.  If this does not resolve the issue, stop here and report a WolfPrint Problem.  Someone from the WolfPrint support team will contact you to help get you connected.

Escalation

Any questions on process or content contained in this document should be escalated through the NCSU Help Desk and have an incident assigned to the OIT_WOLFPRINT support team.
