XCreds is an application that allows a user to log in to a macOS computer using a NCSU Unity ID and password.  Once logged in, XCreds keeps the local account password in sync with the NCSU Unity account by verification with the NCSU Entra cloud identity provider.

Password Change and Sync Best Practices

At some point, you will have to change your Unity ID password.  To minimize the chance of password sync issues, it is is best to follow ALL the steps laid out below from your macOS computer when you are notified to change your password.

1.  Menu bar -> XCreds -> Change Password...

*This is just one method to reach the NCSU Password Change form.  If you have already gone there and changed your Unity ID password, you can skip to step 3.

2.  Follow steps in the Password Change Form

3.  Menu bar -> XCreds -> Sign In
This immediately triggers the XCreds Password Update window.

*Although the XCreds Password Update window (below) will appear automatically at a set interval, our recommendation is to manually trigger this window as part of the password sync process.

Your network and local passwords are now in sync.  You should be able to log in to your computer with your new password.
