Groupings are groups of Groups. They can contain several groups, and are useful for implementing group Assignments and other functionality in the course.
This article provides instructions on how to manually create Groupings in Moodle.
Creating Groupings in Moodle
First, navigate to the Groupings page.
- In the course menu at the top of the Moodle course, select the "Participants" tab.
- In the drop-down menu at the top left of the page, select "Groupings" from the list.
This opens the Groupings page, where Groupings can be created and edited.
Creating a Grouping
To create a Grouping:
- In the Groupings page, click the "Create grouping" button.
- Give the Grouping a name, and optionally, a description.
- Click the "Save changes" button at the bottom of the page.
The Grouping has now been created, and Groups can be assigned to it. Clicking the gear icon in the "Edit" column for the appropriate Grouping will open the editing page for the Grouping.
Assigning Groups to a Grouping
Groups can be assigned to a Grouping in the Groupings page. To assign a Group to a Grouping:
- In the Groupings page, find the Grouping to assign Groups to.
- In the "Edit" column, click the "Show groups in grouping" icon (which looks like a person).
- In the Add/remove groups page, use the central "Add" and "Remove" buttons to add or remove a Group to the grouping.
- Click the "Back to groupings" button to save changes and return to the Groupings page.
