Instructors may need to exclude a grade item or total for a student or group of students so that it is not calculated as part of their overall course total.
To exclude individual scores in Moodle's gradebook, follow the instructions in this article.
Excluding A Grade Using the Single View
First, access the Single view using the instructions in the "Using Single View in Moodle's Gradebook" article.
A grade being excluded removes it from contributing to the course total at all. It will drop the grade entirely both from the combined weight of the other items in the gradebook, and from the course total.
Excluding Individual Grades
To exclude a grade item:
- In the top right corner of the Moodle window, enable Edit mode using the toggle.
- Change the View by toggle to the Grade items option.
- In the Single view page, find the row with the student that should have their grade excluded.
- In that student's row, enable the checkbox in the Exclude column.
- Click the Save button at the bottom of the page.
That grade item will now be ignored when calculating the specific students course total.
Excluding Grades in Bulk
To drop a grade item for all students:
- In the top-right corner of the page, enable Edit mode.
- Change the View by option to Grade items.
- In the drop-down menu labeled Select a grade item, choose a grade item to exclude.
- At the top of the page, in the Actions drop-down menu, select Exclude all.
- In the bottom right corner of the page, click the Save button.
This grade is now excluded from the gradebook aggregation and will not be counted.
