Purpose of Document
To provide any NC State University audience wanting to use the CMDB, an understanding of how to go about engaging OIT, and what prerequisites are required for the engagement.
Audience
Any campus IT organization that wants to leverage CMDB’s capabilities.

Engagement
Engagement with OIT TSS consists of three main areas of focus. See CMDB Prerequisites for more information.
Scope of discovery
- Clearly define assumptions and expectations regarding existing CMDB/SN capabilities
- Clearly define a RACI (roles and responsibilities)
- Define high-level requirements with the customer
- Develop an SLA between the customer and OIT TSS
Project Planning
- Initiate detailed requirements gathering (depends on the use case, scoped CI’s, etc.)
- Develop a formal project plan with key milestone dates
- Signoff/Approval from all stakeholders•
Execution
- Execute plan tasks dependent upon requirements, scope, etc.
- Build credentials, firewall rules, test in dev, resolve issues, etc.
- Bi-weekly updates to stakeholders
- Formal closure of the project, and signoff by all stakeholders
- Implement ongoing and day-to-day operational tasks and responsibilities defined in RACI documents and/or approved scope/SLA documents.
