Some printers require that a code be input into its configuration in order to print. Codes are used as a way for departments to limit printing on specific devices only to their departmental users. This document is intended to guide a user on how to enter printer authentication codes when required. These authentication codes should be provided to the user by their department.
Information
How to enter a printer authentication code on a PC:
Step 1:
- Click on your Start Menu and start typing Printers
- It should auto-complete and present you with the option Printers & scanners
- Click on Printers & Scanners

Step 2:
- Click on the printer that needs a code
- Click on the Manage button
Step 3:
Click on Printing preferences
Step 4:
- Click on the Basic tab at the top of the window
- Then click on the button Authentication/Account Track
Step 5:
- Enter your code into the Password field
- Click on the Verify button
- You should receive a message that says, "Verification has succeeded."
- You must click OK, APPLY and OK again for your changes to be saved
- Send a test print to the printer to ensure it is working correctly.

Escalation
Any question on process or information within this document should be escalated to the help desk and an incident ticket assigned to OIT_DESKTOP_SUPPORT.
In the case that a department does not know the code for the printer, a ticket can be escalated to the assignment group WOLFCOPY to determine the code assigned to that department printing.
