Your voicemail PIN protects access to your phone mailbox and settings. To maintain system security, voicemail PINs expire every 180 days or must be updated if you suspect your account has been compromised.

Expiration & Reminders

• Notifications: You will receive advance reminders via campus email and automated voicemail messages as your expiration date approaches.
• Expired PINs: If your PIN is not updated prior to expiration, it will be automatically reset to a randomly generated value.
• Message Access: An expired PIN only restricts voicemail access by telephone. You will continue to receive new voicemail messages, and you can still access them through Cisco Jabber, Web Inbox, or Voicemail to Email.

 

PIN Security Requirements

Your new PIN must meet all Cisco Unity Connection security rules listed below:

• Length: Minimum of 6 digits and maximum of 80 digits.
• History: Cannot match any of your last 3 PINs.
• Names & Extensions:
  • Cannot match the numeric representation of your first or last name.
  • Cannot contain your primary extension or any alternate extensions (in forward or reverse order).
• Repeated Patterns:
  • Cannot contain repeated groups of digits (e.g., 408408 or 123123).
  • Cannot consist of only two distinct digits (e.g., 121212).
  • Cannot use a single digit more than twice consecutively (e.g., 28883).
• Keypad Sequences:
  • Cannot use straight ascending or descending numbers (e.g., 012345 or 987654).
  • Cannot use straight diagonal, vertical, or horizontal keypad lines (e.g., 159, 159730, 147, 147365, 123, or 123597).

 

Changing your Voicemail PIN Online

Note: This is the required method if you have forgotten your current PIN or if your PIN has already expired.

1. Sign in to the Personal Communications Assistant at voicemail.ncsu.edu using your Unity ID and Password.
2. Select Messaging Assistant.
3. In the top navigation menu, select Passwords, then click Change PIN.
4. Enter your new PIN in the New PIN field, then re-enter it in the Confirm New PIN field.
5. Select Save to complete the change.

 

Changing your Voicemail PIN by Phone

Note: You can change your PIN by phone only if you know your current PIN.

On-Campus

1. Dial 2-6245 to access the voicemail system.
   (If calling from someone else's campus phone, press * when the system answers, then enter your 5-digit mailbox number followed by #). 
2. When prompted, enter your current PIN.
3. From the Main Menu, press 4 for Setup Options.
4. Press 3 for Preferences, then press 1 to Change PIN.
5. Enter your new PIN, then press #.
6. Re-enter your new PIN to confirm, then press #.

Off-Campus

1. Dial 919-512-6245 to access the voicemail system.
2. When you hear the voicemail system greeting, press #.
3. Enter your 5-digit mailbox number, then press #.
4. When prompted, enter your current PIN.
5. From the Main Menu, press 4 for Setup Options.
6. Press 3 for Preferences, then press 1 to Change PIN.
7. Enter your new PIN, then press #.
8. Re-enter your new PIN to confirm, then press #.
