Data Security Training Requirement
All NC State employees must take the Data Security Training. All employee classifications at NC State are required to complete the Data Security Training course once a year. This includes staff, student workers, part-time employees, unpaid appointments, and faculty (including retirees, no-pays, and emeritus accounts).

- What if I am just a student and not an employee?
- Students who are not also employees do not need to take the Data Security Training.
- What if I was notified about pre-registering for the Annual Mandatory Data Security Training?
- If you received a notification regarding pre-registration for the Annual Mandatory Data Security Training, but you are NOT an employee classification of any type (including student worker or unpaid appointment), you can ignore the notification. You should not be registered for the course.
- What if I am registered for the Data Security Training but no longer work for the university?
- If you are registered in the Data Security Training course but are no longer an employee, please contact your former HR and have them double-check your HR employment record. Once HR updates your employment records to reflect that you are no longer employed, then you should be taken off the training roster within 1–2 weeks.
