If you are a student trying to sign up for YouTube Premium or NFL Sunday Ticket on YouTube while signed into your @ncsu.edu account, you may see the following error:
"Your Google account isn't authorized to use Google Payments. Please contact your organization's Google Apps administrator."
This is caused by Google Payments and other paid Google services being restricted on NC State Accounts.
Because this feature was turned off to prevent potential financial loss for NC State Google users, there are currently no exceptions being made nor any plans to enable Google Payments by NC State.
Users wishing to signup for YouTube Premium or NFL Sunday Ticket on YouTube should do so from a personal Google account. YouTube provides a way for you to verify your student status for both services through SheerID.
How to buy YouTube Premium
- On your computer or mobile web browser, go to youtube.com/premium/student while signed in to your personal Google account.
- Select Get Premium.
- Follow the steps to complete verification with SheerID.
- If SheerID can verify your eligibility, you will be redirected to YouTube to to finishing signing up.
- If you're not immediately verified, you will be asked to upload more documentation to verify your eligibility. These documents will be manually reviewed. You will get an email informing you of your eligibility status within 20 minutes in the U.S.. For other non-U.S. locations, an email notification may take up to 48 hours.
- If your eligibility is confirmed through the extra verification step, you will need to log back into your account. Go to your profile by selecting your profile picture. Select Paid memberships and you will get a notification asking you to finish signup using the steps below.
- Select the payment method that you wish to use or add a new payment method.
- Select Buy to complete the transaction.
How to buy NFL Sunday Ticket
- From your computer or mobile browser, go to youtube.com.
- Go to the NFL channel page and select Get NFL Sunday Ticket. You may be asked to sign in with your Google Account.
- Below the NFL Sunday Ticket package options, select Eligible students can save with a student plan.
- Eligible students who’ve already verified their student status with SheerID will see NFL Sunday Ticket at its discounted price. Choose whether to include NFL RedZone with NFL Sunday Ticket and proceed to complete your purchase.
- Students who have never verified their student status and those who have not verified in the last 11 months will be required to instantly verify their student status. To start verification:
- Select Continue.
- Enter your full name, email, date of birth, and student info, including the country or region where your institution is located and your institution’s name, and select Verify My Student Status.
- Instantly verified students:
- If you are instantly verified by SheerID, you will see a “Success!” message before proceeding to check out.
- Choose whether to include NFL RedZone with NFL Sunday Ticket proceed to complete your purchase.
- Students requiring proof of enrollment:
- If SheerID cannot instantly verify your student status, they will request you upload additional documents to show proof of enrollment, such as a school ID card with an expiration date, a class schedule, or a tuition receipt.
- Once you have uploaded your proof of enrollment, SheerID will review your submission. U.S. students can expect a decision on their eligibility via email within 20 minutes. For students verifying enrollment at non-U.S. institutions, an email notification may take up to 48 hours.
- From the email verifying your student status, select Continue to return to youtube.com. Choose whether to include NFL RedZone with NFL Sunday Ticket and proceed to complete your purchase.
- If your student status cannot be verified, SheerID may contact you.
