I received a notice about Google Shared Drive exceptions under 5 Terabytes - FAQ

Why did I receive this notice?

When the storage quota exception is removed on June 30th, 2025, any files in the Google Shared Drive still using more than 15 GB of storage will become read-only.

The storage quota you listed in the notice is incorrect

Storage usage in a Google Shared Drive can increase or decrease rapidly in a short period.  There is always a chance that the storage data we pulled before sending the notice to you could be inaccurate.  If you confirm the current usage is below 15 GB, then tell us to remove the storage exception if you want.  Otherwise, the storage exception will be removed automatically on June 30th, 2025.

I have already reduced storage usage to below 15 GB

The storage quota exception does not go away once you are using below 15 GB of storage.  If you would like us to remove the exception, provide us with the name of your Google Shared Drive and that you want us to remove the storage exception.  Once the exception is removed, the quota will be set to the default amount of 15 GB, and you will no longer receive notices about storage exceptions for that specific Google Shared Drive.

My shared drive doesn't have a storage exception, and I have reduced storage to below 15 GB

If your shared drive is already set to 15 of storage quota, and you are now using under that amount of storage, there is no further action you need to take.  You can verify storage usage and quota using the instructions here.

My shared drive is empty

You are welcome to delete it.  But if you want to keep the shared drive for future use, and it still has a storage exception, we can remove the exception.

I want to pay to keep my current storage level

Get approval from your local IT or department and request that we add your shared drive(s) to a paid group.  OIT will combine all your OUC/departments' over-quota shared drives into one bill starting next fiscal year.  See Can I Buy Google Storage? // What is Happening with Google Shared Drive Exceptions? for more information.
