Information
When working remotely on a Managed laptop, your mapped network drives ("B" and "S" drives) will not automatically be mapped. The reason for this is to help avoid performance issues when your computer tries to connect to those drives before you're connected to the VPN.
Use the below steps to gain access to your Home and Department Shares on a Windows laptop.
Step 1: Connect to the VPN
Follow these steps to connect to the NCSU VPN: NCSU VPN instructions
Step 2: Open File Explorer
On your taskbar at the bottom of your screen, you should see a yellow folder. Click on that folder to open File Explorer. You may also click your Start button and type File Explorer
In the left-hand pane, click on This PC.
In the right-hand pane, you will find top-level Department Shares that you have been given access to and your Home Directory.
In the example below, the right-hand yellow folder is my Home Directory, the middle folder is my Department Share, and the left-hand folder has all the other Department Shares that I have access to, that are not my own department. If you have access to only one Department Share, you may not see the left-hand folder.
