This document most useful if read before a remote password change. It describes the varying behaviors you may encounter when going through a password change off-campus and details the recommended processes.

- The most common remote-work scenario pertains to laptops but the process would be the same for a desktop or other device.
- This article assumes that the user is working on a managed, university-owned machine.
- This article assumes the device being used has the campus VPN software installed and that the user is familiar with using the VPN.
Information
Many people are working remotely and connecting to campus resources using the Virtual Private Network (VPN) service provided by the Office of Information Technology. The behavior can sometimes vary after a password change because the manner in which machines are configured. In some scenarios, the system used to authenticate your computer is not synchronized with the credentials stored locally on the laptop. Other variances and complications may also exist.
