Most computers and phones have internal (sometimes called "private" or device-specific") IP addresses they use to communicate with different networks. Having the device's private/internal IP address can be useful for troubleshooting network issues. Please note this is different from the public IP address.
NOTE: You can typically only access the private/internal IP if you are able to connect to a network. If you are not able to connect on the network (e.g. eduroam or ncsu), you will not be able to retrieve an internal IP address from your device.
