ComTech Telephony Device Guideline


ComTech manages and supports an enterprise-level communications platform that provides real-time communications to university stakeholders.

To maintain system reliability and compatibility, ComTech specifies and approves devices that connect to the university telephony system. Customers are encouraged to engage ComTech early in the communications projects to ensure compatibility and avoid additional integration costs.

Supported Devices

In recent years, ComTech has worked with NC State's ClassTech group and local vendors to standardize supported third-party SIP devices that are compatible with our telephony system.

Using Other Third-Party SIP Devices

Customers may choose to use other third-party SIP devices; however, additional requirements and charges apply.

If the device supports VoIP:

ComTech supports only the device's telephony features. 

The device will be included in system patches and upgrades. The manufacturer is responsible for maintaining compatibility with current and future voice systems, including Cisco Call Manager. 

If a firmware update is required: 

Training and usage documentation will reflect the supported feature set and compatibility limitations.
