Re-Linking Panopto Videos in a Copied Course


When a course is copied between Moodle servers in the transition between academic years, Panopto video links may need to be re-linked or recreated in the course.

This article provides guidance on re-linking or recreating Panopto videos in a copied course.

Re-link Panopto Recordings Using the Panopto Activity

To re-link a copied Panopto activity in a course:

  1. Navigate to the main course page.
  2. In the top right corner of the Moodle window, enable Edit mode using the toggle.
  3. Navigate to the Panopto recording that requires re-linking and click on it to open the activity.
  4. In the activity menu at the top of the page, select the Settings tab.
  5. In the Panopto settings page, click the Select content button.

This opens a pop-up menu with Panopto's interface, and should display the course folder in the top-left corner.

  1. In the pop-up menu, choose how to grade the assignment.
  2. Click the Continue button.
  3. In the top-left corner, use the search menu to find the Panopto folder with the recording to add.
  4. Click on the folder title to reveal the recordings in that folder.
  5. Select the recording by clicking on the thumbnail.
  6. In the bottom right corner of the pop-up menu, click the Insert button. The Panopto activity editing page should display Content selected with a checkmark to indicate that a video has been selected.
  7. Click the Save and return to course button to complete the update. 

Repeat these steps for any other Panopto videos that need to be re-linked.

Re-creating Panopto Activities when they can't be re-linked

If activities were created using an earlier version of Panopto, the Select content button on the Settings page will be greyed out and inaccessible.

To remedy this, delete the activity from the Moodle course, and re-create the activity using the instructions in the "Adding Panopto Videos in Moodle" article for the new semester.
