If the time allotted for a Moodle Quiz attempt has passed, and the attempt has not been submitted, the state of the student's attempt on the Quiz Results page will be Never submitted. The instructor will be unable to access the student's responses to grade the quiz attempt.

This article provides the steps needed to submit a quiz attempt with a state of Never Submitted.

Manually Submitting Student Quiz Attempts

In the Moodle Quiz settings, in the Timing section, the options for When time expires are:

 

With the second and third options, students' quiz attempts will not be submitted automatically. Students must manually submit their quiz attempts.

Submitting a "Never Submitted" Quiz Attempt

The Quiz attempt can be reopened in the Results page of the Quiz.

1. In the main Moodle course page, find and click on the Quiz.
2. In the Quiz menu at the top of the page, select the Results tab.
3. In the Results table, find the student with the Never submitted attempt.
4. In the State column, click the Reopen button.
5. In the Reopen attempt? confirmation pop up, click the Reopen button.

The quiz attempt will be reopened and immediately submitted for grading.
