A Windows machine has a device-specific (internal) IP address. Having the device's IP address can be useful for troubleshooting network issues. Please note this is different from the public IP address.

NOTE: This only works if you are able to connect to the network having issues. If you are not able to connect on the network, you will not be able to retrieve an internal IP address.

The device's Wi-Fi and Ethernet IP addresses can generally be found in the "Network & internet" section in Settings. To find a device's IP address on Windows 10/11, you can follow the instructions below.

Finding the device-specific Wi-Fi IP Address

1. Ensure you are connected to the desired network (e.g. eduroam or ncsu).
2. Open the Settings app from the Start menu.
3. Select Network & internet > Advanced network settings > Hardware and connection properties.
4. The IP address will be listed in the Wi-Fi section under IPv4 address.
