Overview of LTI External Tools in Moodle

LTI (learning tools interoperability) external tools are web applications integrated with Moodle with their own features. This allows for grade information to be passed from one platform to the other, and import rosters so students can access external tools directly through Moodle.

More information can be found in Moodle's "LTI External tools" documentation.

This article provides an overview of licensed and unlicensed LTI External Tools available for use in Moodle.

Overview of LTI External Tools

The majority of the LTI tools can be enabled using the instructions in the "Managing LTI External Tools in Moodle" article. Some LTI tools, such as WeBWorK, are managed using the instructions in the "Activating WolfWare Tools" article.

When a course is copied between academic years (for example, from Spring 2024 to Summer 2025), tool links can become non-functional and may require manual re-linking. To re-link an external tool following a course copy, see the "Re-linking External Tools in Moodle" article.

Some tools are managed and can be supported by the LearnTech Help Desk, while other tools (primarily publisher "courseware") are managed by their support centers.
