In some cases, you are allowed to enroll in courses for credit only, receiving a Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory grade. However, not all courses allow a student to choose this option. Please contact your advisor and/or the course instructor for questions related to taking a course for credit only.
The course will not count toward your GPA. In order to receive a Satisfactory (passing) grade, the equivalent of a C- or better is required. Selected courses can be included only under the free elective category of the specific curriculum in which the student is enrolled. Thus, students in curricula without free electives may not take credit-only courses to satisfy graduation requirements except for Physical Education and other courses authorized to be graded S/U (reference the Credit-Only Courses Policy below).
You can also learn more about taking courses for credit only by visiting the Grading Information Guide on the Student Services website and/or reviewing the Credit-Only Courses Policy for the university.
Please note that regular tuition and fees still apply to classes taken for credit only.
