Zoom meetings can be set to record the active speaker, gallery view, and shared screen during Cloud Recordings as separate video files. The recording, if played in Zoom, will show all enabled views simultaneously, but DELTA does not recommend keeping recordings in Zoom Cloud storage long-term because recordings are only kept for 2 years. For any Zoom recording that must be kept for more than 2 years, we recommend moving them to Panopto.
Panopto's session editor enables different video streams to be viewed at the same time. This means that after recording the Zoom views separately, they can be uploaded to a Panopto session for viewing, and then shared as a single video using Panopto.
This article provides instructions for setting up Zoom Cloud recording to separately record different meeting views, and for setting up a Panopto session using all recorded files.
To record active speaker, gallery, and shared screen views separately, the cloud recording settings for the individual user will need to be updated.
First, navigate to the Cloud Recording settings page:
Here, changes can be made to an individual's cloud recording settings.
Three separate views can be recorded:
To enable separate recordings in a Zoom meeting:
These changes will apply to any future Zoom meetings chosen for cloud recording. These changes do not function with local recording, which is limited in terms of what it can record.
To upload the separate view recordings to a single Panopto session, they'll need to be downloaded from Zoom as MP4 files. Follow the instructions in the "Downloading Zoom Recordings" article to download the recording files.
Following that, to create a new session, follow the instructions in Panopto's "How to Use the Build a Session Feature" article. Use the gallery view or active speaker view as the primary stream, and use shared screen view and other views as secondary streams.
The video can also be edited or cut as needed using the instructions in Panopto's "How to Edit and Add Streams in the Editor" article.
