A preferred or non-legal name is a name that you can designate to be used on certain University-related records or documents in place of your legal name. It is a name that you wish to be known or identified by such as a nickname.
PLEASE BE AWARE:
- Changes to your preferred name can take up to 2 days to appear across all systems.
- If you are both a student and an employee, you will want to update your preferred name using the instructions for students and faculty/staff listed below.
Students
Students are only able to make changes to their preferred first name. If a student wishes to make any sort of change to their last name, they will need to complete a legal name change with Registration and Records.
- Visit MyPack Portal.
- Select Student Homepage from the drop-down menu.
- Select the Personal Information tile.
- You'll see a list of your names here; click on the name listed as Preferred.
- Make edits to your preferred name, then click Save.
Faculty & Staff
- Login to MyPack Portal
- Navigate to the Employee Self-Service page.
- Select Personal Details.
- Select Names.
- In the list of names, select the name listed as Preferred.
- Select New Preferred Name.
- Select Add Name.
- Edit your name and select Ok at the top.
- Select Save.
