After you have installed Cisco Secure Client on your Windows computer, then you should be able to connect to NC State's Virtual Private Network (VPN). If you are having issues even after connecting, then you should troubleshoot.
Troubleshooting Steps
If you can't connect to the internet while using VPN, even though Cisco Secure Client says that you're connected, or are having other connection issues, then you should follow the troubleshooting steps below.
- Restart your computer.
- Make sure that your computer is up to date.
- Make sure that you are properly signing into VPN using vpn.ncsu.edu and the correct VPN group.
- Disable IPv6 on your network adapter.
- Fully uninstall and then reinstall Cisco Secure Client. Restart your computer after you've reinstalled Cisco Secure Client.
To Disable IPv6
To disable iPv6 on your computer running Windows 11, follow the instructions below.
- Open Settings on your computer.
- Go to Network & internet > Advanced network settings > Wi-Fi.
- Select Edit next to More adapter options.
- In the Wi-Fi Properties box that appears, unselect the check box for Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6).
- Select OK.
- Restart your computer.
