Macbooks/Macs have device-specific (internal) IP addresses. Having the device's IP address can be useful for troubleshooting network issues. Please note this is different from the public IP address.
NOTE: This only works if you are able to connect to the network having issues. If you are not able to connect on the network, you will not be able to retrieve an internal IP address.
Finding the device-specific Wi-Fi IP Address
- Open the Apple menu and click System Settings.
- Click Network in the left panel and then select Wi-Fi.
- Click Details next to the network you’re connected to.
- Scroll down to see your Mac’s local IP address.
Finding the device-specific ethernet (wired) IP Address
- Open the Apple menu and click System Settings.
- Click Network in the left panel and then select Ethernet.
- Click Details next to the network you’re connected to.
- Scroll down to see your Mac’s local IP address.
