You may encounter various error messages or display issues when signing into NC State sites and services. In many cases, these issues may be caused by locally cached data stored by your browser and often requires clearing that information to fix the issues.
To Clear Your Cookies and Cache
- Log out of the impacted site if possible.
- Close the browser entirely. (If you are on a Mac, be sure to completely quit the browser.)
- Open a new browser window.
- Follow the instructions linked below to clear the cookies and cache for your specific browser.
- Note: When given the option to choose the time range, select All Time (or whatever the maximum amount of time is).
- Chrome
- Firefox
- Safari (Make sure that you are following the instructions for the correct macOS version.)
- Microsoft Edge
- Opera
- After the browser has finished clearing the cookies and cache, close the browser.
After you have cleared your browser's cookies and cache, re-open the browser. Go directly to the site that was having an error, not using a bookmark or link, and try using the site again.
Notes
- Clearing your cookies and cache will log you out of sites that have you automatically logged in, including clearing previous automatic multifactor authentication logins.
- You may need to run through these steps multiple times to fix a browser issue involving cached data.
- If you are unable to close or quit your browser completely, try using a different browser and/or using a private browsing or an incognito session instead.
