Connect Your Device to the ncsu Wireless Network

NC State strongly encourages you to enroll your device in eduroam if your device is eligible (e.g., laptops, phones, and tablets). The eduroam network is secure and encrypted. You can connect devices that aren't eligible to connect to eduroam (e.g., gaming consoles, smart TVs, and other multimedia devices) to the ncsu network. The ncsu network is unencrypted and should not be used for sensitive work.

Connect Your Device

You should enroll your device in Nomad before connecting to the ncsu network. This will allow you to not have to sign into the network each time you connect.

  1. Enroll your device in Nomad.
  2. Connect the device you registered to the ncsu wireless network. Please note that device registration can take up to 30 minutes, so you may need to wait.

Troubleshooting Tips

If you are having issues connecting to the ncsu network after enrolling your device in Nomad, then you should follow the troubleshooting steps below.

Connect Between Devices

The Network Operations center is not able to guarantee that casting devices (e.g., Chromecasts, Google Home, and Alexas) that require a wi-fi connection between two devices on the same network will be able to cast. The ncsu network was not designed to incorporate these connections.

You might be able to connect the devices by requesting a public IP address for the casting device and for the device you are using to cast (e.g., your phone). Please note the security risks involved.
