Google Group managers that would like to adjust their group settings so that anyone in the organization, anyone on the web, or only invited users can join their group should adjust their join setting.
Change the "Join the group" setting
- Visit Google Groups.
- Click My groups.
- Click the name of a group you manage.
- On the left, click Group settings.
- Under Who can join group, select an option.
- Click Save changes.
Permissions explained
- Invited users only restricts everyone from joining your group. As a group manager, you would need to invite or direct add every member of your group.
- Organization users only allows anyone with a ncsu.edu email address to join your group.
- Organization users can ask allows anyone with a ncsu.edu email address to request to join your group. The requests are approved by a group manager.
- Organization users can join, anyone on the web can ask allows anyone with a ncsu.edu email address to join your group, and allows anybody else outside of our organization to request to join. The requests are approved by a group manager.
- Anyone on the web can ask allows anyone to request to join your group. The requests are approved by a group manager.
- Anyone on the web can join opens up your group to allow anyone, including users outside of our organization to join your group.
Note: If you do not see the bottom three permissions listed above, you do not have the Allow external members setting enabled on your group. To enable external members, see our Enable External Members article.
