Set a Subject Prefix on your Google Group

With the migration of Mj2 lists to Google Groups, we were not able to import the subject prefix. The default subject prefix was [listname], where listname was the unqualified name of your list or everything before @lists.ncsu.edu in your list email address.

To help identify email as group messages, you can set a subject prefix.  This text will be added to the beginning of the subject line in email notifications for all messages posted to the group.

Set a Subject Prefix

  1. Sign in to Google Groups.
  2. Click My groups.
  3. Click the name of a group you manage.
  4. Click Group settings > Email options.
  5. Make your changes in the Subject prefix field.
    • Google recommends surrounding a prefix with [ ].
  6. Click Save changes.
