Retiring a service offering

A service offering is ready to be retired when it is nearing the end of its productive life, either because it is being replaced or simply discontinued. The process of retiring a service offering might include migrating users off of the offering, reallocating equipment, reassigning staff and closing vendor contracts. When this process begins, change the service offering record's Status to "Retiring".

When the Status of the service offering becomes "Retiring" a notification will be sent to the Service Portfolio Management (SPM) team. A member of that team will contact you to discuss the retirement process. Of particular interest to the SPM team will be the removal of the service offering’s presence on the IT Service Portal. This includes the offering’s page in the service catalog as well as any request items and knowledge base articles associated with the service offering.

When all retirement activities have been completed, reach out to the SPM team and inform them that the service offering has been retired. They will change the record’s Phase to "Retired". At that point the service offering retirement process has concluded.
