Users/departments interested in purchasing additional Google Storage can request increases on Google Shared Drives.  Please read this article for more information on this process.

How much will overages cost?

In 2025-2026 shared drives, generic accounts (My Drive), and user accounts (My Drive) over their quota will be billed on a cost/GB rate of $0.1953125/GB. 

User accounts and generics (My Drive) will still turn read-only if over their My Drive quotas starting April 14, 2025.  Overages will still be charged until they reduce below their quotas. even with paying their overages.  

How will the billing work?

• Shared Drives with more than 5 TB: Separate bills charged at the per/GB rate.
• Shared Drives with less than 5TB:  Shared drive overages will be shared with a user's 2-digit OUC/department for approval and payment.  The OUC/department will receive an aggregated annual Google storage bill.
• User/generic overages will be billed to the 2-digit OUC as an aggregate user Google storage bill.

What Quota Increase Levels are Available for Shared Drives?

These are only the quota tiers.  All storage will still be charged for the usage, not capacity.  For example, a user requests a 250 GB level and uses 192 GB, they would receive a bill for 192 GB - 15 free GB).  The prices here just provide examples if a user had a specific level.  Pricing tiers include:

• Gigabyte (GB) Levels (costs for annual charge)
  • 50 GB = $9.76 
  • 100 GB = $19.53
  • 250 GB = $48.83
  • 500 GB = $97.66
• Terabyte (TB) Levels; 1TB=1024 GB
  • 1 TB = $200.00
  • 5 TB = $1,000.00
  • 10 TB = $2,000.00

Are Quota Increases Available for User or Generic Accounts (My Drive)?

No.  Due to issues with business continuity/offboarding and allowing for ledger five/grants, all user/generic accounts cannot receive quota increases.  Any user accounts (My Drive) over their quotas on April 14, 2025 will turn read-only, although email will continue to work normally for any of those accounts.  They will still be billed for any usage over their quota.

How can I see which of my/my unit’s (IT Directors/Leadership) shared drives/accounts are affected?

Visit the IT Reporting Tool* (Google reports)to see which shared drive(s) is affected.

How do I commit to purchasing ‘billed quota increases'.

• If you plan to pay for additional storage, submit a ticket to the Help Desk with the name of your Google shared drive and the shared drive's URL.
• If requesting an amount under 5 TB, your Local IT will approve the increase and the Google Service Team will apply the increase. 
  • This amount will be added to the OUC/Unit's roll up bill.
• If requesting an amount over 5 TB, please complete this form for separate billing.
• No user/generic quota increases are available.
