Virtual Server Hosting
The Office of Information Technology (OIT) virtual machine (VM) hosting service provides virtual servers in NC State data centers to campus units for an annual fee. The OIT VM service provides a stable and highly available hosting service to reduce the need for the purchase and maintenance of physical server hardware for individual services. Platform Compute Services (PCS) in OIT Shared Services monitors, manages, and maintains the infrastructure supporting the VM service.
This service provides support for OIT managed VMware and Xen (XCP-NG) .
The PCS team is Part of OIT's Shared Services Organization

- Avamar Backups with reporting
- Variety of service tiers to match performance needs
- Consulting on proper VM sizing
- Weekly VM reports if requested
- Resilient Data Centers locations for application service balancing
- Redundant network and storage connections
- DataCenter VLANS available in each location
- Self-Service (Xen only)
- IT staff and Campus units in need of self-managed hosted Virtual machines.
