Domain Name Service (DNS)

Description
NCSU provides DNS (Domain Name System) hosting services for the university's colleges, departments, and qualifying related organizations.

Assistance
For assistance with this service during normal business hours (M-F, 8-5), please call the Network Operations Center at 919-513-9675 or email network@ncsu.edu. To report an outage after hours, please call 919-513-9675.

  • Host all hostnames, subdomains, and delegations for "ncsu.edu" and certain related domains
  • Provide hosting for authorized domains registered with external registrars.
  • Maintain university DNS Records, including:
    • A Record
    • CNAME Record
    • MX Record
    • TXT Record
    • Reverse DNS
  • Maintains the authoritative DNS servers for the domains hosted by the university
  • Grants access to manage DNS entries using Infoblox
  • Hosting of approved external domains
  • 24x7 on-call support

This service is available to faculty, staff, and the campus community.
