Classroom Design & Support
ClassTech (Classroom Technology) is a unit within the Technology Support Services department of the Office of Information Technology. ClassTech is responsible for client and technology support of more than 300 technology-rich spaces. ClassTech supports a range of room types and clients across the university. While ClassTech's chief charge is the support of general use classrooms, ClassTech also supports the campus' student labs and clients under a Service Level Agreement.
ClassTech maintains a wide array of technologies to support the university's mission. These technologies allow faculty and staff to explore various pedagogical lecture styles. ClassTech has standardized on the following equipment types to meet those needs:
- Lectern computers
- Projectors and LCD Displays
- Document cameras
- Lecture capture solutions
- Microphones (lectern mounted and wireless)
- Cameras (lecture capture and Zoom)
- Digital laptop inputs
- Touch panels for av system control
In addition to technical support responsibilities, ClassTech also provides AV Design Consultation and Project Management services for campus stakeholders. This includes creating designs to meet client needs and use cases, working with vendors to generate quotes and establishing timelines for installation, direct management of outside vendors who are installing AV equipment, completing punch lists detailing items that need to be addressed by the vendor install team, and training the client on the use of the deployed technology at project closing.
In addition to its core mission, ClassTech is also a campus resource for emerging AV technologies. ClassTech has led campus working groups on Wireless AV, Hybrid Conference Room Design, SCALE-UP environments, and the shift to standardizing on technologies that support the need to allow for content capture and videoconferencing in all classroom spaces.
ClassTech will also coordinate vendor presentations on campus as needed.
