Original Post:

New logins to Google Workspace account apps (e.g. Gmail, Drive, Calendar) appear to be causing a 502 Error which prevents any login. This is happening across Google Workspace accounts globally and is not just limited to NC State. Current logins appear to still be working, albeit pages may load slower than normal. There are currently no known workarounds besides trying again.

The Web Registry migration was reverted after several discrepancies related to the database upgrade from MariaDB 5.5 to 10.4 were found early Monday morning. IWS put the application into maintenance around 6:30 PM EST and repeated the upgrade and migration, taking care to address the issues affecting the previous migration.

Databases have been upgraded and migrated to the new cluster successfully, and maintenance is complete.

Web Registry will be in maintenance for a database migration beginning at 5PM EST on Friday, November 18th, 2022. No new requests or modifications will be possible during the maintenance period.

Google has reported that the Intermittent sharing dialog errors should be fully resolved.  We have seen no further reports from users and the can no longer reproduce the error ourselves.   If you continue seeing ongoing errors when sharing files in Google, please alert the help desk at 919-515-4357.

When trying to share Google files from the open file such as Docs, Sheets, etc. users are encountering an error message

We are reaching out to Google to get more information as the Google Workspace Status Dashboard currently shows no known issues with any of their services.

As a workaround users can right-click files from drive.google.com and choose the share option from that menu to share files as needed.

Inactive Google Accounts - Zero Quota

On Thursday, June 30th, OIT staff will be modifying Inactive accounts in the Google Workspace environment to set the storage quota allocated to Zero.  This will take up to 14 days to apply to all Inactive accounts.  The effect will be that Google Docs owned to those accounts will no longer be editable.  Attempts to edit the file will get the message "The file is view only. No edits can be made to this file."  Users who still need access to modify those files owned by Inactive accounts are recommended to move the file to an appropriate Shared Drive (if you are an Editor) or make a copy of the file.  To prevent any issues going forward, users are recommended to follow appropriate separation guidelines.

Inactive accounts includes the ones below:
Separated Employees
Students who left the university without a degree
Students who were admitted but never enrolled
..and soon: Alumni who have left the university more than six months prior

Bronto System Engineers identified the problem on their platform and initiated a fix yesterday. We've monitored for the last 24 hours and deliveries are working as expected. We are still following up on potential delivery issues of some mailings that occurred between 3PM 1/24 - 10AM 1/26.

Bronto system engineers are continuing to troubleshoot this issue as it is intermittent; we have a workaround in place for the Bronto ncsu emails.

We are reopening the outage for our Bronto mailings / customers as we are still seeing valid emails marked as spam. We have escalated this call within Bronto and are working hard on resolution - this appears to all be on Bronto's end. 

Issues with valid Google emails going to spam has been resolved. 

We will continue to update the Bronto issues that we see.

We are still seeing some issues and our Google Admins continue to work with Google and Bronto for resolution.

The Google Service Team has been made aware of some valid mailings being marked as spam. We are seeing this with a few Bronto mailings as well as some general Google ones.  We are working with both Bronto and Google to remedy.

On Wednesday, December 15th, OIT staff will be modifying the DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting & Conformance) policy for ncsu.edu.  This change will assert to all Email systems (including the NCSU Google domain) that any email coming from an @ncsu.edu address (or subdomain) must be authorized.  This is being done to prevent phishing attacks targeted at NCSU and the organizations we collaborate with.  Those emails that arrive from an @ncsu.edu address from an un-authorized source will automatically be marked as Spam.

Over the past several months, members of the Google Service Team have been working with Campus Communicators, IT groups, and users of major mass email vendors to ensure that appropriate emails are authorized.

UPDATE Tuesday, Dec 15 - Problems impacting many of Google's core services appear to be resolved. Some services including Gmail, Meet experienced prolonged issues but those should now be resolved as well. Google has not yet provided additional details regarding the cause of the widespread outage, but we will update with any details. 

A separate networking issue appeared to impact access to Google services, but was not related to the Google-specific outage.

Google Workspace (G Suite) is experiencing widespread outages across most of its service offerings. This outage may impact users ability to login to Gmail, Calendar, and other Google-related services. We do not currently have specific information on the cause of the outage.
