Instructors can print a hard copy of a Moodle quiz to allow a student to take the exam in-person, or for other needs.
This article provides instructions for printing a Moodle Quiz to paper.
Printing a Blank Moodle Quiz Attempt
Moodle does not provide a direct mechanism for printing blank quiz attempts. By setting all questions in the Quiz to be on the same page, a blank Quiz preview can be generated and downloaded as a printable file.
If students have already attempted the Quiz in Moodle, this process may not work. Duplicate the Quiz activity first, then follow these instructions.
To adjust the settings of the Quiz:
- Open the Quiz page.
- In the Quiz menu at the top of the page, click the "Settings" tab.
- In the Quiz settings page, find and expand the "Layout" section.
- Set "New page" to "Never, all questions on one page".
- Ensure the "Repaginate now" button is checked.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the "Save and display" button.
This should set the Quiz to place all of its questions on a single page, enabling it to be printed using a browser's print settings.
To print a Moodle Quiz:
- In the main Quiz page, click the "Preview quiz" button.
- After the preview attempt has loaded, right-click anywhere inside the Quiz.
- In the right-click menu that appears, choose the "Print" option to open the Print dialog.
- In the Print menu that appears, scroll through the document to verify everything is appearing correctly.
- In the top right corner, set "Destination" to the printer, or to "Save as PDF" to save it as a file.
- In the bottom left corner, click the "Print" or "Save" button.
This will generate either a printed copy to the printer set in the "Destination" field, or a PDF file saved to the instructor's machine so that it can be printed elsewhere.
As a final step, adjust the settings of the Quiz again to set "New page" to its original settings.
