Instructors may need to exclude a grade item or total for a student or group of students so that it is not calculated as part of their overall course total.

To exclude individual scores in Moodle's gradebook, follow the instructions in this article.

Excluding A Grade Using the Single View Report

To exclude a grade item:

  1. In the course menu at the top of the main Moodle course page, select the "Grades" tab.
  2. In the Grader report table, find the specific column with the item that should be excluded.
  3. At top of that grade column, click the "Cell actions" icon (which looks like ellipses).
  4. In the drop-down menu that appears, select "Single view for this item".
  5. In the top right corner of the Moodle window, enable "Edit mode".
  6. In the Single view table, find the row of the student that should have their grade excluded.
  7. In that student's row, in the "Exclude" column, check the box.
  8. Click the "Save" button at the bottom of the page.

That grade item will now be ignored when calculating the specific students course total.
